Kittery: It's official
Sorry I'm a little late on this update, but in May the town of Kittery officially declared itself to be bike friendly. Hooray!
From the May 14 Town Council meeting, the minutes state:
"NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Kittery Town Council, duly assembled, hereby declares the Town of Kittery, Maine to be BICYCLE FRIENDLY, with all benefits herein described."
This was in large part the doing of David Balkin and the non-profit Seacoast Area Bicycle Routes organization.
What's it all mean? Basically it means that Kittery encourages folks to ride bikes for health, recreation and practical purposes; encourages drivers to give cyclists the benefit of the doubt and a wide berth; and recognizes that bicycle tourism is valuable to a scenic venue like Kittery.

I haven't done much cycling in the Kittery area, so I'll be heading there to check it out for a future column. Can anyone recommend any good routes?
