Get out your fat tires
Fall foliage season is upon is and there's no better time to get out on the mountain bikes and into the woods. If you haven't biked up in the Carrabassett Valley, then you really should get up there this fall. There are great trails that serve to remind you just why you live in Maine.
The Bicycle Coalition of Maine holds an annual Fat Tire Frolic in Carrabassett Valley, and this year's event is on Sunday, October 7. Here's how the BCM describes it:
"The 20-mile Huston Brook Trail, declared by Mountain Bike Maine to be "the most scenic, enjoyable ride in the state..." takes you over streams, along dirt roads, single track, the base of Bigelow Mountain and through stands of trees spectacular with color. This is a moderately challenging ride on well maintained trail. Or you can choose the hybrid- (and family-) friendly Easy Rider 15-mile option up and back on the Narrow Gauge Pathway. The NGP is a wide, winding shared-use trail that follows the Carrabassett River for most of the ride. Between the scenic majesty of the river and the vibrant reds, oranges and yellows of the trees, this G-rated ride is sure to impress."
There's a $25 fee for non BCM-members. For more info and to register, visit the BCM Web site.
