The Almeida family has moved to Raising Maine. They still will be exploring Maine's outdoors, creating crafty projects and casting chickens in homemade videos. But you will see it all in their new blog.

Questions to ponder at the hockey game

L. and I went to the Pirates game Sunday night (they won!). It was our first for the season and we were happy to see the team again.

L. had a few questions during the game...

Why does the indoor karting place use zambonis to race this year instead of go-karts?

Why does #2 (Weinrich) wear a yellow face mask when everyone else wears a clear one?

Is it fun to coach the Pirates with your brother?

L.'s commentary about the game recorded in the car on the way home.

Zamboni race
Unsure why. Probably because it's widely available as a runable program for the ops crew... Although if they can find the programmers that made the race I'm sure a go-kart version could be made just as easily!

Visor
I've always joked that it's to protect him, much like a quarterback wears a red vest in practice to avoid getting "bumped". But its most likely to avoid a "white-out" effect that creates eye strain. Seeing white ice, white dasher boards, and then having to focus on finding the puck.

Coach and Assistant Coach (brother and brother)
Wait around on the Commercial Street side after a game and ask him in person. Kevin's usually pretty good about answering fan questions!

Good as always to hear that you and the family enjoyed the game!
