Bird Flu Blog Comment and Hybrid Goldeneye Photo

Bird Flu Blog Comment.

I just wanted to share a comment that I received all the way from Hong Kong in regards to my October 28th blog entry regarding the hysteria about Bird Flu. I do suggest having a look at Dr. Williams’s website for more information.

“Good to see this post - there's indeed way too much hysteria.
Yes, no reason to panic for birders (I say this as a birder living in
Hong Kong - where we've had a few wild birds with H5N1, all very sick
or dead).

Seems H5N1 is efficient at killing wild birds, so natural selection (is)
halting them (from) spreading the nasty forms of bird flu (which mostly
spawned and spread in poultry).

You may also find info re wild birds and h5n1 on my website useful.

Best regards,
Martin Williams

Photo of Freeport hybrid Goldeneye.

A few days ago, local wildlife photographer Bill Hartwell snapped a few pictures of the apparent hybrid Barrow’s x Common Goldeneye hybrid that I saw yesterday at Freeport’s Winslow Park. Folks on my birdwalk this morning joined me in studying the bird some more. Comments are most welcome.

Hmmmm...Hmmmmm....Interesting bird, definately. Plumage wise, I would say it definately looks Barrows-ish. I do agree with head and bill shape comments being more Common-like, but I dont see how the white crescent is differently shaped from any other Barrows Goldeneyes I have seen. Cool bird nonetheless, and I agree that this bird is a Barrow's X Common hybrid, although definately strongly Barrows-like. (such as Lawrences and Brewster's Warblers (hybrids between Blue-winged and Golden-winged Warblers)...Brewsters looking more like Blue-winged, Lawrences looking more like Golden-winged)

In this Wiki I am going to type a lot of stuff, and link to some pages that I want to link to. I don't have any particular reason to link to these pages I just figured why the hell not! Some call me crazy but I think that links are great and so filling this Wiki with lots of links is also great. So why did I choose the name Typical Sailor? I honestly have no idea. I found this neat site called schtuff.com and it invited me to sign up. So that's exactly what I did. Where was I? Oh yes the name! Well first I chose the word typical because it was the first thing that popped in to my head and then the second word that popped in was sailor so I typed that in to. Once I had done this I figured it was as good as anything so I registered it! Yeah it isn't a particularly great story but I thought I'd tell it anyway. So, these Wiki things they're pretty sweet, aren't they? I mean it's easy for someone with little or no mad skills to set one up and get things roling and type stuff like this. I looked in to this and apparently it all began with Wikipedia. Well I think so anyway, they're the ones who made it cool At least. So I've been typing for some time now but I figure I'll keep on going! Because that's just who I am, y'know? Yeha I'm slowly running out of things to type and stuff to say. Let's talk about all these links that I appear to be linking I found the list on my harddrive, apparently it's a lot of links to a lot of links. I don't know why I found this funny, but I must have done at one point in time so I figured I'd post it with random text linking to random links just because I think that this would make things look cool? I don't even know anymore. Wow it's looks like I'm going to end now. Good Bye

Actually, that's not good info. That's nothing but irrational fear-mongering designed to sell a worthless product no doubt chock-full of useless, mis-information. Most of us are smarter than that. Please take your trash elsewhere.
