Paddling the scenic Saco
The first glorious Saturday of the summer season proved perfect for paddling the most popular section of the scenic Saco River, the nine miles between Fryeburg and Brownfield.

Yes, I know that this is the section that attracts hordes of beer-swigging yahoos and other problem paddlers. Click here for more info on that scene.
But the rowdies won't arrive until Fourth of July weekend, so quiet-loving canoeists and kayakers still have a month to enjoy the river.
Yesterday I was joined by three friends from the Maine Outdoor Adventure Club, putting in at Walker's Bridge on Route 302 and taking out at the Route 160 bridge in Brownfield.
We also took two side trips, first into Pleasant Pond, and second, into Lovewell Pond. Both are just a few hundred yards from the river's main stem.

Look like fun? Why not join us? The Maine Outdoor Adventure Club holds its annual June barbecue meeting on Wednesday, June 6. Most people who join the club simply show up at a meeting and sign up on the spot. Click here for the club's website.
