Thursday Feb 7, 2008.

No school (snow day), so I skipped work and took the kids and some friends up for the day. GREAT CONDITONS with anywhere from 6 to 18" of fresh POWDER on every trail. The deeper stuff was along the edges.
There were only about 100 on the mountain all day. No lines, no waiting, just great skiing.
The kids especially enjoyed the terrain parks and the glades off the quad chair side.
A little disappointing that the Sunny Side chair was not open, so the overall trail count was down.

It was also "men's day" so that made the deal a little sweeter with discounted tickets and credit for lunch.

I find the mountain usually gets skied over quickly on weekends with all the people learning to snowboard and ski and polishing the slopes. On those day by noon or 1pm most trails are icy.
But mid week was great all day, and into the evening.

Played hooky Tuesday... gorgeous, spring conditions, most of the mtn. was still open with all of the snow from the holiday storms.

This Monday, I brought my girlfriend for her first time skiing to Shawnee Peak. We went Monday night (the tickets being very affordable at $12). Although we didn't get there until 6:45, I was able to bring her on 4-5 runs on the bunny slope, Rabbit Run. She did very well, especially for her first time, she only fell 3-4 times and the scariest part for her was my fault...getting off the lift, I accidentally pushed her back onto the chair, but rather than going for a ride back down the hill, she kept her head and hopped off and road it out.

The conditions were pretty good, the air was extremely warm for early January. I would give them an 8/10 in conditions. We didn't go in the lodge, so I can't comment on that.

Overall a very fun trip, we will be back for lesson #2 on next tues (couples' Day)

12/30/07 Took "First Time on Snowboard" lesson in the morning and had a great time! Lots of space to learn without crashing into others. Some were quite good by the afternoon...I however am still sore and may have to return for lesson #2.
