Tax on hiking boots
Hah!
I thought that would get your attention.
Hey, since it looks like the proposed canoe and kayak tax, er, registration fee, is being nixed from the budget, I propose a 2 1/2 cent tax on hiking boots.
Or backpacks.
Or water bottles.
Or matches.
Geez, c'mon now. The state needs the money. Can't we hikers all do without an extra freeze-dried dinner or two to help out???
Hey Carey,
Don't forget about taxing bikes, skies, ice axes, etc. Heaven forbid that we look for spending cuts and deadwood. Deadwood?? Oh ya lets tax campfires.

Turns out this was a bad joke, but we received a fax the other day telling us that a rep had proposed a $10 registration fee for bikes...
I hope we eventually get to a place where we can stop discouraging revenue rich activities because of bad state policy.
Regarding your trip to the Route 26 Twilight Zone- could that have anything to do with your previous post linking MOAC and the Micro-brew industry? Y'know, brain cells do not regenerate...
