Honoring Abby
By now most of you know the tragic news of Abby Holman who died Saturday in a freak skiing accident at Sugarloaf.
All of us who knew her are shocked and saddened by her untimely loss.
Our thoughts and prayers are with you Abby, your family and friends.
Please take a moment to read Abby Holman's obituary and know what a wonderful person she was.
There is nothing more I can add at this very sad time.
Goodbye Abby. Much, much too soon.
The first time I met Abby was at the old Downeast Whitewater HQ back in '88. She was guiding a bit in those days and had as yet left her indelible mark on us. She was however, already remarkable in her own way.
A couple of months ago, I commented to her on how she was kicking butt and taking names in state government. Her response: "I didn't run for the Legislature to play footsie with these guys in Augusta. I ran because I was sick of watching nothing get done because of the silly games."
I had just recently reconnected with Abby after not seeing her for nearly twenty years. Our daughters are the same age and I was looking forward to them knowing each other. Abby was destined to be one of those people on this planet who leave a lasting impression, dead or alive.
A 21-paddle salute to you Abby. As Carey says, its a sad time and you will be missed by many.

Ditto that Pete, my fellow raft guide. Remember always the sign posted to the ceiling beam in our beloved Marshall Hotel in The Forks: "Live well. Laugh Often. Love Much." Do so consciously and with gusto, for our days in this life among those we love are indeed numbered, and we don't when that number will be called. Live!
