Welcome to my blog
Have you ever paddled a kayak on the ocean? If the answer is no, and you are interested, you are in the right place. Or if you have been on the ocean and interested in learning more about it - you're welcome too.
Heck, if you are an experienced paddler eager to show off what you know, pull up a keyboard.
This is a blog for anyone interested in sea kayaking. Although I do paddle on lakes occasionally and have an insane desire to do the Dead River this year, my heart belongs to the ocean.
I love everything about it. The roll of waves moving under my boat. The rough, rocky coast. Eagles patrolling the shoreline. The waves breaking on the beach. My boat slicing through water so still I could swear it's glass. The ringing of a buoy at night.
You see the ocean and coast from a different perspective than you would get from the shore. Other boaters can experience much of it too. But kayaks are very nimble and put you in the middle of the scenery.
Not to knock flatwater paddling, but I don't get the same experiences on a lake or pond. Oh any day on the water beats a good day at work. But a good day on flatwater can't beat a bad day on the ocean.
And there are a few more risks on the ocean than there are on inland waters. It's a different type of adventure worthy of a dedicated blog.
I'm going to tell you all about it. And I hope to help you plan a few trips of your own. I can tell you about tides, good put-ins and great scenery. Count on some advice on safety and gear too. And I have a few good stories. You're going to get sick of the stories.
You can ask questions. I will try to answer them. I might have to point you to someplace else for better answers.
Thank you for tuning into Coastal Kayaker. Let's get trippin'.
